| Surely that can be the only reason for releasing mossop early from his contact for a fee?
EDIT : I renamed the title is said before 'Financial issues on the horizon (mossop)'

| Not really
Whilst i rate Mossop highly i think it's a very good piece of business for the club.
He's a good player but his injury record is a serious concern. He's not completed a full season since he broke through to the 1st team.
Add to that he's OOC contract at the end of next season means we are picking up money for a player that would probably leave 12 months down the line.
Mossop could either be the next Peacock or he could be the next Prescott and never play.

| Why not sell while we can? If he is going to go anyway, we may as well get some cash, maybe his injuries make it a sensible move. Why do people always look for then negative?

| He's going to go at some point because NRL clubs can afford to pay him more & are interested. No financial difficulties, there's just only so much you can pay a prop forward, even one as good as him.

| I watched Mossop closely today and as much as he's a good player he's nowhere near irraplacable. He didn't do anything that Dudson or Crosby didn't do and he didn't perform any better then they have been doing for a few weeks. It's obviously his first game back and he'll improve but still.
Give me a choice of losing Hansen or Mossop for next year and I'd rather lose Mossop without doubt. Sadly I fear both will be heading to the NRL for 2014.

| We have some cracking players coming through in Crosby and Burke it's just a shame we will probably never see the best if them at Wigan, just like we will not see the best if Mossop.
It's frustrating that fans are accepting the fact that we will lose our best players to the NRL, but it is a cold hard fact of the financial state of the 2 games.
We are currently a feeder system with players main aim to play well so they can move on to the next level.
If he has indicated he will be looking for aove when his contract is up it makes sense to cash in on him and part on good terms in the hope he returns at the back end of his career after a successful career in Australia.
One thing that the lads have to consider is the step up may be too much. Players like Tommy have gone back and really struggled to find their feet so far.

| i think it is smart to sell players and make a bit of cash especially with the players in your ranks coming through otherwise they just see out there contracts and go for free very smart from the board room.

I though that a few times.
When Mossop plays to his absolute best he's a class above BUT it's very rarely that we see that level of performance on a consistent basis. Maybe that's due to injuries but i still don't think we've ever seen the best that Mossop has to offer on a regular basis.
I really do think that next season we should look at replacing Mossop with a steady & experienced player. Someone who's can generate consistent if not unspectacular results with a good previous injury records. I'm talking about the type of player Coley or Ray Cashmere were and Kylie Leuluai has been.
We need an old head who can get those tough 5 yards time and time again for a full season of games.

| I guess your right this is more to do with the salary cap differences between the superleague and NRL
I guess our only hope is that the player will come back to us in the later stages of their paying days

| If Mossops career at Paramatta / wherever he ends up is anything like it has been at Wigan so far he will be a massive flop. No way would he get straight back into an NRL team the way he does at Wigan if his injury keeps reoccurring. If I was him I would at least want to get through two (maybe even one) full season before even thinking about going to the NRL.
